Race 1 - (12h51) THE 'LAKAZ RAVANN' TROPHY (0-20) - ABT. 990M (6 Runners)

General

The start of this race was delayed whilst the track maintenance staff attended to the reconfiguration of the false rail between the 1200m and 1250m.

Thereafter, the start of this race was further delayed due to MAJESTIC MOON (G. D. Aucharuz) being scratched after Jockey G. D. Aucharuz reported there to be something amiss with this gelding and NEW ABBEY (I. Taka) becoming fractious in the stalls, bolting the course and subsequently being scratched by the Veterinary Surgeon.

MAJESTIC MOON (G. D. Aucharuz) was scratched at 12h45. NEW ABBEY (I. Taka) was scratched at 12h48. All monies invested on MAJESTIC MOON and NEW ABBEY were ordered to be refunded. Fixed odds winning bets were deducted 55 cents per rupee on the face value of the ticket.

Trainer S. Narang appeared before the Board with respect to the riding instructions for both his runners J. Allyhosain (INTOTHEMYSTIC) and T. Juglall (BELLS APOSTLE) in this race. During the course of his instructions, he informed he Board that he intended to change the racing pattern of BELLS APOSTLE (T. Juglall). In this regard, he explained that this was BELLS APOSTLE (T. Juglall) first run after a significant accident on the track and serious injury. Consequently, he was reluctant to put this gelding under pressure in early part of the race in order to obtain the lead and instructed Jockey T. Juglall to ride his mount where he found it in the running.

At the 800m, EDGE OF THE SUN (J. Da Silva) was momentarily inconvenienced when awkwardly placed on the inside of BADAWEE (A. Roy) which was ridden aggressively from the start in order to obtain the lead.

Between the 250m and 100m, ARCTIC FLYER (B. Sooful) raced in restricted galloping room when awkwardly placed on the inside of EDGE OF THE SUN (J. Da Silva) which rolled out after the crossing and rolled back in marginally thereafter.

Jockey B. Sooful (ARCTIC FLYER) appeared before the Board with regard to this incident however, after reviewing the patrol films of the race, was of the view that with available angles, there would be insufficient evidence to sustain any further action.

In view of the Starter’s Report, the starting stall certificate for NEW ABBEY (I. Taka) has been withdrawn. This gelding has been suspended by the Stewards for seven days after which, it will be required to complete a jump out in a barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

After the running of this race, the Riders raised concerns regarding certain inconsistencies in the false rail. In order to investigate the impact of this, the Riders agreed to race with slightly more room from the inside running rail.

Jockey O. Sola reported that LADDER MAN did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.

Between the 1200m and 1000m, POWER TOWER (J. Allyhosain) overraced.

GONTRAVELIN (N. Marday), POWER TOWER (J. Allyhosain), XENON (M. Sonaram), LADDER MAN (O. Sola) which was wide throughout and compounded in the straight, raced with restricted galloping room.

TALISMAN (D. Bheekary) raced wide around the turn and into the straight.

An inquiry will be opened into Jockey J. Allyhosain’s ride in the concluding stages of this race.

Apprentice I. Taka signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 147(6)(a)(ii) in that he struck with his whip, SUPREME ORATOR more than 8 times before the 100m. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of Rs 2,000 was imposed.

Jockey D. Bheekary (MOSCHINO) signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule147(5)(a) and Rule 147(6)(a)(ii) in that as the rider of MOSCHINO, he used his whip in the drawn position down this gelding’s shoulder whilst in the drawn position and struck MOSCHINO more than 8 times prior to the 100m. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of Rs 5,000 was imposed.

Entering the straight, CARLAS MAMBO (R. K. Chumun) and ARLINTONS REVENGE (A. Andrews) were ridden in, in order to secure clear running.

WATCH ME DAD (J. De Souza) raced wide at the 1200m.

Between 1200m and 1000m, AL AASY (R. Joorawon) had to be restrained off heels on a number of occasions when overracing.

Jockey J. Da Silva (GANG LEADER) right side foot struck the rail at the 1200m when this geld shifted in. Jockey J. Da Silva was subsequently examined by Course Medical Officer and passed fit to ride for the remainder of the meeting.

At the 1000m, STAGEWORLD (B. Fayd’herbe) was carried out by GANG LEADER (J. Da Silva) which refused to settle and shifted out when racing fiercely between the 1400m and 800m. As a consequence of this horse’s behaviour, Jockey J. Da Silva was forced to race around the field from the 1000m and to the lead at the 700m.

Thereafter, at the 100m, GANG LEADER (J. Da Silva) had to ease when awkwardly placed on the inside of BOLD PHOENIX (A. Andrews) & DESERT ILLUSION (J. Allyhosain) both of which made inward movements. Jockeys J. Allyhosain and A. Andrews appeared before the Board regarding this incident and were advised to take stronger and faster measures to correct their mounts in future.

Trainer A. Sewdyal will be advised that the racing manners of GANG LEADER (J. Da Silva) are unacceptable and that he must take all reasonable measures to ensure there is no similar occurrence in future.

Jockey B. Sooful reported that ZIGI ZAGI ZUGI did not stride out. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
